Patterson Recreational Area
This diverse area along the East Fork of the Des Moines River offers timber, grassland and wetland habitat for wildlife. No matter your passion, wildflowers, butterflies, birds or fishing, this site provides a relaxing time for all. All of the local children call this area “the land of many croaking”, as it is one of the best spots around for hearing the spring frog chorus! Come hear the symphony ! River Corridor Bring your boat or canoe to one of the ramps above or below the dam and see things from the river’s viewpoint. Owls, thrush, chickadee, a variety of woodpeckers and the Eastern Bluebird inhabit the woodland. Bobolinks, Eastern Meadowlark, Eastern Kingbird, a variety of sparrows are to be found in the grassland area. The wetland shelters ducks and geese.
